Abydos Designer 8.0 Released
04-Dec-09
Abydos are pleased to announce the release of Abydos Designer 8.0.
This major release includes a significant change to the product architecture. By moving to a full Java-based platform, Abydos Designer is now more closely aligned with the latest BMC Remedy architecture, providing a more seamless integration between process logic and BMC's ITSM 7.x applications without the need for complex configuration.
This release is a stepping stone to full web-based process design for BMC Remedy and the provision of process-driven Software as a service (SaaS), for those customers that are looking for a fully hosted solution.
The other benefits that this release include are:
a) elimintation of Visio; with the new java-based GUI for process construction, there is no longer any need for Visio to display or construct processes. Built using the Netbeans IDE, the new Java based GUI for process construction provides greater flexibility and ease of use, while still maintaining the benefits of the previous release including automated version control and process life-cycle management.
b) elimination of the separate Abydos database; all data is now stored in Remedy forms as a deployable application making it easier to install, backup and migrate.
c) elimination of separate security; all security is now performed through Remedy logins since the old Abydos database is now obsolete.
d) no changes required for customers wishing to use Abydos Designer with ITSM 7, SRM or other Remedy-based applications; the integration with these applications will remain the same.
e) integration to the Remedy Developer Studio environment (planned); this will allow users of Remedy Developer Studio to seamlessly switch to process management in Abydos Designer without having to login to a separate application.
